20/07/2010 Asthma issues

We all know that asthma is a huge problem in the UK, are our homes a factor in this increase? Strathclyde University have done some research into this and discovered that this may be the case. They found that changes in the design and use of domestic environment over the latter part of the 20th century may have led to a huge increase in house dust mite concentration in temperate/maritime influenced climatic regions. This may have been the main factor in asthmatic symptoms in children. Whole house heat recovery systems reduce mixing ratios especially during winter months to below 7g of dry air, this inhibits dust mite re-colonisation. The study has demonstrated that by using this strategy you are likely to improve air quality and lung function, read more here.
